Brief Biography-Juan Antonio de Frías y Escalante of Córdoba became a disciple of Francisco Rizi when he moved to Madrid at an early age. Rizi was a painter to the King, and Escalante later worked in the Royal Court. The works of Titian, Veronese and Tintoretto influenced him. His style ranged from Mannerism to Baroque to Rococo. His paintings were mainly of religious subjects; many of his works remain in the churches of Madrid. |
