Robert Wilhelm Ekman

1808-1873 Finland/Romanticism

 

Brief Biography-Robert Wilhelm Ekman was born in Uusikaupunki or Nystad in Swedish. He came from an impoverished family, as both parents died when he was ten. Nevertheless, Ekman received tuition from Gustaf Wilhelm Finnberg and entered the Swedish Academy of Arts in Stockholm in 1824. Johan Gustaf Sandberg admitted him to his atelier until 1836, when he travelled throughout Europe. Ekman became a member of the Academy in Sweden and later received much work in Turku, Finland, where he spent his lastyears.
