Duccio di Buoninsegna
c. 1255-c. 1316-19 Italy/Medieval
|
Brief Biography-Duccio di Buoninsegna was the greatest of the Sienese artists. One of his most famous works was the Maestà for the high altar of the Siena Cathedral. It still survives; however, parts of it are in other countries. It is uncertain where he trained, but he may have had a Byzantine influence. Nevertheless, the Sienese School of painting, which equalled Florence, was forever swayed by his style. |
