Herbert James Draper

Brief Biography-Herbert James Draper, born in London, studied at the Royal Academy. He frequented Paris and Rome on study outings while working as an illustrator. However, he made London his permanent home, where one of his major works was decorating the Draper’s Hall ceiling. His paintings were mainly of Greek mythological subjects; one of his paintings won the gold medal at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1900. Later, he painted portraits primarily and achieved considerable success as a portraitist. He died in his Abbey Road home in 1920, leaving his wife, Ida, and daughter Yvonne. |
