Francis Dodd

1874-1949 Wales/ War Artist

 

Brief Biography-Francis Edgar Dodd was born in Holyhead, Wales. He studied at the Glasgow School of Art and toured Europe on a scholarship until 1895, and eventually settled in London, becoming a war artist in 1916. He subsequently found success as a portraitist. Dodd was a trustee of the Tate Gallery and, by 1935, was a full member of the Royal Academy. Sadly, he died by suicide in 1949.
