Brief Biography-Diego Valentin Díaz of Valladolid was a historical painter and architect trained by his painter father, Pedro Díaz Minaya. He also painted still-lifes, flowers, altarpieces, and portraits of the Valladolid nobility. However, he gained his highest esteem for the Annunciation of the Virgin perspective he painted for the hospital for orphans called the House of Mercy at Valladolid, which he founded and where his remains lie with his wife. Díaz was an avid collector and held engravings by Raphael. He left a great deal of his wealth to the Hospital. |
