Brief Biography-Juan de la Corte of Flanders was in Madrid by 1613, where he spent his life. He gained experience in Antwerp from Sebastiaan Vrancx and Jan Vredeman de Vries, and in Spain, he received instruction from Diego Velázquez. Titian and Tintoretto also influenced his work. He was a painter of landscapes, battle scenes and perspectives, and he became a painter for kings Philip III and IV. However, Corte remained primarily in the style of Flemish painters throughout his career, specialising in small history pieces. He died in 1660 in Madrid, aged 73. |
