Léon Cogniet

Brief Biography-Léon Cogniet studied under Pierre Narcisse Guérin along with Théodore Géricault and Eugene Delacroix. He entered the French Academy in Rome after winning the Prix de Rome in 1816. His most noted works are on the ceilings of the Louvre. Later, he gave up painting and devoted all his time to teaching. He became a professor at the École des Beaux-arts before retiring to a quiet life. |
