|
Brief Biography-
Pieter Codde was a portrait and genre painter. He lived and worked in Amsterdam and is perhaps most famously known for finishing the work by Frans Hals of the Amsterdam Civic Guards, dubbed The Meagre Company. Hals influenced his style of painting.
He was a friend of the artist Willem Cornelisz Duyster who was his age. They had an argument that ended in bloodshed; Duyster was also his student. Code’s works are on view in various galleries throughout Europe and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
