Frans Alvar Alfred Cawén

1886-1935 Finland/Expressionism

 

Brief Biography-Frans Alvar Alfred Cawén was from Korpilahti, Finland. His formal studies were in the Academy of Fine Arts for two years, after which he studied in Paris for a year. After that, he travelled Europe extensively, at intervals, while teaching at the Drawing School of the Finnish Art Society. He was a member of the Academy of Fine Arts and later became chairman of the Artist’s Association of Finland. His wife, Ragni, was also a successful artist; she lived until 1981.
