Alexandre Calame
1810-1864 Switzerland/Romanticism
|
Brief Biography-Alexandre Calame was from Switzerland, and Francois Diday, the Swiss landscape painter, tutored him. When he was fifteen, he began working in a bank, and the banker Diodati supported his tuition in realising his talent. His paintings primarily depict Alpine views, which Calame exhibited in Paris and Berlin. After spending time showing in Paris, he travelled to Italy, where he did a considerable amount of painting, but his heart always remained in the Swiss Alps. Due to health reasons, he moved to Menton on the French Riviera in 1863, sadly dying a year later. |
