Brief Biography-Carl Frederik von Breda was from Stockholm, Sweden. He studied in England under portraitist Joshua Reynoldswho influenced his work. Back in Sweden, he was a professor at the Academy of Arts in Stockholm, and he subsequently became a portraitist for the Swedish Court. As a result, he was affectionately known as the Van Dyck of Sweden. Carl was from a family of artists; his grandfather Lucas and his son Johan Fredrik were painters. |
