Jorge Afonso

Brief Biography-Jorge Afonso was selected court painter by King Manuel I and later by João III. His atelier was adjacent to the Saint Dominic monastery in Lisbon, where he had numerous students. Among them were renowned artists such as Vasco Fernandes, Cristóvão de Figueiredo and Gregório Lopes. In addition, he painted one of the many altarpieces in the National Museum of Ancient Art, Lisbon. |
