Pieter Aertsen

Brief Biography-Pieter Aertsen (nicknamed Tall Peter) was from a family of artists in Amsterdam. His pupil and nephew, Joachim Beuckelae, was another artist notable for the art of still-life painting. He did a considerable amount of his work in Antwerp, which consisted of genre scenes, biblical scenes, and still life. His style is in the category of Mannerism. The paintings of Joachim Patenier may have had some influence on his technique. His sons Aert, Dirk and Pieter were also notable artists. |
