Hans Anton Aschenborn

1888-1931 Germany/Namibia/South Africa

 

Brief Biography-Hans Anton Aschenborn was a painter, illustrator and poet. Born in Kiel, Germany, he travelled to Namibia c. 1912, where he worked on a farm he bought, in 1920 he moved to South Africa. His paintings were primarily of African Wildlife. In 1921, he returned to Germany where he spent the remainder of his days. He was highly regarded both in Namibia and South Africa, where there are streets named after him. His son Dieter and grandson Ulrich, are also renowned artists.
